📡 VisIR Chipper ROS — Rate of Spread Analysis

The VisIR system in Chipper ROS mode measures the rate of spread (kg/m²) of pre-coated chippings on Hot Rolled Asphalt (HRA). Sensors T1–T70 across the road width capture chip distribution, not temperature. Quality is assessed by consistency — a low Coefficient of Variation (CV) means even chip spread across the surface.

📖 Scoring Methodology
⚖️ Score Weights
Temp 40%
Climate 20%
VisIR 20%
Production 20%

Overall = (Temperature × 0.40) + (Climate × 0.20) + (VisIR × 0.20) + (Production × 0.20)

🌡️ Temperature Score (40% weight)

Measures the percentage of loads with temperature readings that fall within the specification band of 130–190°C.

Formula: Score = (loads_in_spec / loads_with_temp) × 100

Only loads with valid temperature readings are included. Higher scores indicate better temperature compliance during delivery.

🌤️ Climate Score (20% weight)

Assesses the proportion of working days with favourable weather conditions for asphalt laying.

Formula: Score = (good_weather_days / total_weather_days) × 100

Good weather excludes days with frost (ambient ≤0°C), heavy rain (>4mm/hr), or high wind (>40km/h). Moderate rain days are included as acceptable.

📡 VisIR Thermal Score (20% weight)

Evaluates thermal uniformity of laid material using VisIR infrared scanning data.

Formula: Score = weighted_avg(good×100, ok×50, poor×0)

Categories: Good = variation <10°C, OK = 10–20°C, Poor = >20°C. Lower thermal variation indicates better compaction outcomes.

🏭 Production Score (20% weight)

Measures production efficiency: average load size, number of active trucks, and GPS site coverage.

Formula: Score = min(100, (avg_load / 20) × 50 + (sites_with_gps / total_sites) × 50)

Targets ≥20t average load and GPS tracking on all sites. Rewards operational efficiency and data completeness.

📝 Key Assumptions & Caveats
  • Temperature spec band of 130–190°C is a general asphalt specification; individual material specs may vary
  • Loads without temperature readings are excluded from temperature compliance calculations
  • Weather data is sourced from the nearest weather station; microclimates at site may differ
  • VisIR thermal variation thresholds (10°C / 20°C) are based on industry best practice guidelines
  • Production score normalises average load size to a 20-tonne target
  • Sites without GPS coordinates are excluded from the map but included in all statistical calculations
  • The overall score uses a weighted average — temperature has the highest weight (40%) as it is the primary quality indicator
  • Outlier temperatures (e.g. >300°C or <50°C) may indicate sensor errors but are included in compliance calculations
  • Data period: January–May 2026 (partial year)
